Last night, Californians voted to pass a temporary redistricting plan in their state which was written in response to what Texas did back in the summer.

Here's what it looked like:

The non-partisan Citizens Redistricting Commission will likely be out of the picture until the 2030s.

Time will tell whether the gerrymandered map the Democrats draw will be considered unconstitutional by California law.

From the AP:

California voters approved new congressional district boundaries Tuesday, delivering a victory for Democrats in the state-by-state redistricting battle that will help determine which party wins control of the U.S. House in 2026 and, with it, the power to thwart or advance President Donald Trump's agenda.

The approval of Proposition 50 gives Democrats a shot at winning as many as five additional seats, just enough to blunt Texas Republicans' move to redraw their own maps to pick up five GOP seats at Trump's urging.

Essentially, the red areas of California will likely turn blue, at least temporarily.

Here's the wildest part about this measure passing:

About two thirds of California voters voted to temporarily take the redraw out of the hands of the independent Citizens Redistricting Commission, yet in an exit poll, 92% of voters want an independent commission to draw the maps in the future. That means most of these people understand that these temporary maps will be unfair, yet they still voted "yes."

Make it make sense, California.

Make it make sense.

I will leave you with this thought:
