I bet this is somehow the fault of white Christian men!
The difference between the concept art and what was actually built cannot be more different:
THAT ONE JANKY HOUSE 💀
Senegalese-American singer Akon announced the futuristic city in 2018 to prove to the world that Africa can dazzle the world with architectural prowess and hard work.
From My Modern Met in 2020:
LOOK AT THOSE SHINING TOWERS!
The new $6 billion development is called Akon City and will fulfill the star's wish to provide a refuge for members of the African Diaspora both near and far. In addition to the 2,000-acre resort, condos, and stadium, the metropolis is also planned to run on renewable energy and mainly use Akoin — the singer's own cryptocurrency. After two years of planning and development, Akon has announced that they are breaking ground in 2021.
Akon believes that Africa, and his home of Senegal especially, is long overdue for economic investment. He is calling the forthcoming locale a 'real-life Wakanda' and plans for it include a tech hub and 'Senewood' to develop the film industry.
The dream:

The reality:
Life comes at ya fast!
As of this week, Senegal has canceled the project.
Per Bloomberg:
That project 'no longer exists,' Serigne Mamadou Mboup, head of Sapco-Senegal, the state-owned entity that develops coastal and tourism areas, told L'Agence de presse sénégalaise.
Sad! The only place black people could flee to to escape the ravages of Trump!
Last year, Sapco gave Akon two weeks to begin work on the development or risk forfeiting the land in Mbodiène, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) southeast of Senegal's capital, Dakar. Most of the land was reclaimed after Akon missed payments to Sapco.
Dude didn't even pay them!
Maybe he was too distracted by losing his SUV.
For some reason, the government is letting Akon lead the private development of a portion of the land into a smaller luxury resort that will cater to the world's rich elites - a far cry from the dream of creating a futuristic city by Africans for Africans.
Akon, a Senegalese-American singer, has retained 8 hectares of land that will form part of a bigger project covering over 500 hectares that Sapco backs.
'What Akon's preparing with us is a realistic project, which Sapco will fully support,' Mboup said.
I'll believe it when I see it! 😂
