Governor Ron DeSantis has approved a trial run of attack drones on three Florida campuses to help law enforcement take down school shooters.
According to Newsweek, the attack drones were designed by Campus Guardian Angel, a Texas company. The drones come armed with pepper rounds and a glass breaker.
Campus Guardian Angel CEO Justin Marston said,
We feed live video to police, show exactly what's happening, where the suspect is, and even smash through windows with a glass punch to create distractions. This tactic, like during the SAS's famous hostage rescue [at the Iranian Embassy in London], can give officers a huge advantage.
Currently, an officer's job is to run toward gunfire, alone, with no support or intel — basically a standoff. With our drones, they're not alone; they know what the suspect looks like, what they're doing, and we take point around every corner.
We usually find the shooter before they do and keep them occupied. Every officer who's seen this live has said they want it.
The drones will be stored in secure boxes on site and are activated within five seconds of a teacher or administrator pushing their silent panic button.
And I'm sure there's no way a student will be able to get their hands on those.
Once activated, drone pilots in Texas will take over flight control over encrypted channels.
‘It's a bit like that movie The Matrix, where the agent can jump into the nearest person and immediately be good to go. We're a little bit like that — but we're the good guys,' Marston explained.
For future reference, as you install attack drones in schools, bringing up a movie where machines enslave humanity is not the best strategy for alleviating parental concern.
The school-campus attack drones are set to go live next January.
