Hugo Monteiro, who became a U.S. citizen in 2020 after moving here legally from Brazil, was at the Cambridge District Court in Medford, Massachusetts, when ICE agents approached him, threw him in handcuffs, and shuffled him into a waiting SUV.
It probably looked something like this:
Hugo said:
I just came here to bring a client for a hearing. And when I came out, they took me, but again, I was not expecting this at all. I'm still shaking.
They were threatening me. But again, I was calm because I knew I didn't do anything wrong.
They were just, like, telling me I was under arrest, that I was in trouble. I was confused.
That sounds terrible, and it seems like it would fit right into the mainstream media's Trump bashing narrative.
But the reason it's not making those rounds is because of what happened next.
‘They pulled over in the parking lot. They explained to me they wanted to make sure they had the correct person,' he said. ‘I showed them my ID, my passport and my picture, and they confirmed that it was not me.'
Once the ICE agents saw he was a citizen, they immediately returned him to the courthouse and let him go.
Monteiro's response to the incident shows exactly why Trump got elected and still has great approval numbers.
‘Unfortunately, they called the wrong person, but I still support whatever they're doing,' Monteiro said. ‘I voted for Trump. There are a lot of bad people in this country, to be honest with you, don't deserve to be here.'
‘No hard feelings,' he added.
No leftist rant.
No threatened lawsuits.
Just a hearty handshake and a nod of understanding.
There are a lot of bad people in this country, [after all.]
