This is embarrassing beyond words.
On the Friday before Thanksgiving, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced 'a major milestone' in the recovery from January's wildfires that razed 13,000 homes across the region: A four-bedroom house in Pacific Palisades had received its final approval from the city, making it the first house to be rebuilt after the fires.
That's right. LA Mayor Karen Bass publicly announced that 11 months after a fire burned down one of the richest neighborhoods in America's second-largest city, the government red tape has finally allowed for ONE HOME to be APPROVED to be built.
The kicker?
The home that won the approval is a show home that was already scheduled to be demolished before the fire!!
From Politico:
Bass didn't mention the family that would be moving back into the finished property.
That's because there isn't one.
A homebuilding company, Thomas James Homes, owns the parcel.
Here's the parcel report for the property as evidence:
Unless you're building a cathedral in Barcelona, it doesn't take long to build most things.
It took five years to build the entire Hoover Dam.
It took only a year and 45 days to build the Empire State Building.
The Burj Khalifa took 6 years to build.
Florida managed to rebuild a bridge in THREE DAYS after a hurricane destroyed it.
How much more embarrassing can things get for LA??
Enjoy the benefits of big government, California. Maybe eventually, they'll let you rebuild a house or two!
