I've heard of the Democrats winning elections with dead candidates before, but running a person who's gone missing is a new one.
According to the AP, that's exactly what New York Democrats are doing with Petros Krommidas, who is running for the Nassau County Legislature.
Krommidas went for a swim in the Atlantic while training for a triathlon and never came back.
Petros Krommidas' phone, keys and clothes were found on the sands at Long Beach on Long Island ...
As the months passed, local Democrats attempted to field a replacement to run for the seat in the Nassau County Legislature.
I know it sounds like they're probably running a dead man and not a missing person, but a New York judge ruled otherwise.
A state judge recently ordered Krommidas' name to remain on the November ballot, ruling that he's still considered missing and not officially deceased.

Think about it.
What if Krommidas is alive, but he lost his memory at sea and is now unwittingly living with a mini-golf course owner that convinced him they're married to get unpaid labor and free babysitting out of him?
It happened to Goldie Hawn in Overboard, I don't see why it couldn't happen in real life.

If Krommidas wins, the Democrats hope to trigger a special election to advance another candidate, but the seat is held by a Republican, and Krommidas wasn't necessarily favored to win anyway, so it might be a moot point.
