Accurate Energetic Systems near Bucksnort, Tennessee, suffered a catastrophic explosion on Friday morning that left multiple people dead.

While authorities had not released a number as of 2:30 p.m. EST, reports indicate at least 19 people were still missing and presumed dead.

Accurate Energetic Systems specializes in military-grade explosives.

The shockwave was felt for miles.

From CBS News:

The Associated Press reported that the blast rattled homes miles away. Gentry Stover, a nearby resident, told the AP that it woke him up.

'I thought the house had collapsed with me inside of it,' he said in a phone interview. 'I live very close to Accurate and I realized about 30 seconds after I woke up that it had to have been that.'

A residential video 21 miles away from the plant:

Hickman County Advanced EMT David Stewart said that the blast was not one isolated event. Follow-up explosions initially kept first responders from entering the plant.

The plant, located 60 miles southwest of Nashville, reportedly had 3 previous safety violations from 2019.

More about the company:

AES has been awarded numerous military contracts primarily from the U.S. Army and Navy, according to public records reviewed by the Associated Press, and produced items including bulk explosives, small breaching charges and landmines. Officials at the Pentagon told the AP they were aware of the explosion and were looking into the situation.

The Hickman County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to stay away from the site so that emergency responders can safely and quickly assess the damage and look for any survivors.
