James Gunn, the director of the newest Superman movie, told Variety some very interesting things about how he conceptualizes the story of America's most iconic superhero.
Superman, the alien from Krypton, is the same as any other immigrant! And when Superman "immigrated," we used to be a proper country that loved people. But now we're filled with hate.
'I mean, "Superman" is the story of America,' Gunn explained. 'An immigrant that came from other places and populated the country, but for me it is mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost.'
Gunn acknowledged that the movie's themes may be interpreted differently across political groups, especially considering the current nationwide unrest around immigration. However, Gunn stands by the ideals embedded in 'Superman,' and added that he doesn't care if anyone takes offense.
"Yes, it's about politics," says Gunn, who probably thinks he's being edgy.

'Yes, it plays differently, but it's about human kindness and obviously there will be jerks out there who are just not kind and will take it as offensive just because it is about kindness. But screw them,' he said.
Sorry, I don't need a three-hour lecture from a dude in tights about how America sucks now and how MAGA is evil.
Let's get to the replies.
James Gunn needs to watch Smallville. Clark Kent was raised by good Christian people and raised to love America. It is the key to his goodness. He isn't only kind, he's just - a massive distinction.
That's the exact opposite of what the commies burning down LA and NYC believe.
That's a movie I would want to see!
Anyway, good luck making money on this now.
