Philadelphia's largest municipal workers' union, AFSCME District Council 33, went on strike a week ago after being unable to negotiate wages and benefits with the mayor's office. The two sides met again on Saturday and were once again unsuccessful.
Let's just say that literally stinks for residents.
The union wants more of a pay raise (the numbers are disputed), while the city, of course, wants to hand out less. A judge ordered critical workers, such as 911 dispatchers, back to work, but that hasn't helped the trash problem.
The union dropped this message on social media Sunday:
The city has established 63 trash drop-off sites, but as you can see, it's getting pretty nasty out there.
What's more, temperatures are set to be in the 80s and 90s throughout the week, with periods of rain forecast as well.
