I'm not going to pick on 88-year-old Barbara Steinmetz, who was born in Austria and survived the Holocaust. But I do think many older Americans have absolutely no idea what time it is:
On the left of that photo is Barbara. On the right is Mohamed Sabry Soliman, who lobbed flaming Molotov cocktails at a group of Jewish Americans last weekend as they participated in Boulder, Colorado, run to support the release of Israeli hostages being held by Hamas.
Barbara, the oldest victim, suffered burns from the attack.
From the hospital, she told NBC News that being attacked with Molotov cocktails in Colorado is unthinkable.
'It's about what the hell is going on in our country,' Steinmetz said when pressed. 'What the hell is going on?'
Well, Barbara, I'm glad you asked.
See, this is what's been going on:
Joe Biden kept the border purposely open for four years, but for the last 20 years or so, politicians from both parties have been working to allow migrants from all over the world to skip our immigration process so lobbyist corporations could get cheap labor here at home.
Mohamed Sabry Soliman came here in August 2022 through Los Angeles. He was here on a B1 (temporary business) and B2 (tourism) visa, but when it expired in February 2023, he and his family refused to leave.
In September 2022, he filed an asylum claim (likely for the heck of it) and was subsequently awarded a work visa by Joe Biden's people. Even when that expired in March 2025, he didn't leave. The Egyptian man continued to illegally live in Colorado - just like millions of other illegals who are in sleepy little communities all across America.
Then he decided, as a Muslim Egyptian man with no connection to America's history, traditions, community, religion, people, language, or heritage, that he wanted to set Jews on fire. So he did.
'We're Americans,' she said. 'We are better than this. That's what I want them to know. That they be kind and decent human beings.'
But he's not an American, Barbara.
He's an Egyptian. He is a Muslim. He is an Arab. He sees the world through these lenses. American values run opposite of his own in many places. I'm not even picking on the guy - I'm just telling you that you can't appeal to his "Americanism" any more than I could appeal to your Chinese heritage. It doesn't exist!
In his moral framework, it makes total sense to firebomb Jews. It just does. Not every Muslim is violent or sees Palestine the same way he does, but he's acting logically and morally within the bounds of his own faith and heritage.
In his mind, he IS being decent! He did this because of his love for Allah:

Barbara was photographed wearing a button. A very particular button. Maybe she got it herself, maybe someone pinned it on her for a social media photo, but it's interesting nonetheless:
I don't know Barbara's political beliefs (although it is Boulder we're talking about) and I don't know her affiliation with the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS), but I do know the HIAS is currently suing the Trump administration for freezing asylum claims.
That is, the HIAS is suing to keep the border open, specifically in regards to refugees, the majority of whom have come from the Middle East and other Muslim countries within the last 10-15 years.
So more specifically, Barbara seems to support an organization that is trying to keep men like Mohamed Sabry Soliman in her neighborhood.
That, my friends, is the peak of irony.
