MacArthur, 86, was born in 1939 and married his wife in 1963. They have four children. In 1969, he was brought on as the pastor of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California.
MacArthur's radio programs and books taught millions of people the Gospel. A fierce expositional preacher, he lost none of his fire in the sunset years of his life, famously defying California's ban on church meetings during the Covid pandemic.
Pastor MacArthur was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia several days ago and his church said his time was near.
