According to somewhat funny-yet-scary reports, someone utilized an AI-generated voice to place calls as Secretary of State Marco Rubio to multiple high-ranking officials.

According to Breitbart, the prankster built up quite a string of incidents.

The unknown Rubio impostor has so far reportedly contacted at least five government officials: three foreign ministers, one U.S. governor, and one member of Congress, according to a State Department cable obtained by the Washington Post.

Though it has not been confirmed whether or not the imposter asked to speak with such dignitaries as I.P. Freely, Seymour Butts, or Amanda Hugginkiss, a State Department cable communication did say that attempts were made to have the officials make contact with someone on the messaging app Signal using a fake email address that also claimed to be Rubio.

'The actor left voicemails on Signal for at least two targeted individuals and in one instance, sent a text message inviting the individual to communicate on Signal,' the State Department cable said.

The State Department has not disclosed whether or not any of the individuals targeted in the fake calls responded to the impostor.

So, for any high-ranking officials reading this (you know who you are), if you receive any calls or texts asking if your refrigerator is running…

… it's (probably) not really Marco Rubio.
