Listen β€” I'm a hardcore, pipe-hitting Protestant, who's told myself I'd never convert to Rome. But videos like this make me reconsider.

YIKES:

This United Methodist pastor (if we can even call him one after this nonsense) strongly disagrees with ✨you guessed it✨Jesus himself.

Here's the passage from Luke 13:

[Jesus] told this parable: 'A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. And he said to the vinedresser, "Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?"

And he answered him, "Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.'"

The parable was preceded by Jesus telling his audience, "unless you repent, you will all likewise perish."

This pastor, meanwhile, says he's more compassionate that Jesus, telling his congregation "we are already enough." With a lispy voice and a fig-tree costume, he confidently declares the tree was actually not barren, was producing just fine, and that any suggestion otherwise is clearly the result of ... toxic capitalist propaganda.

Given the costume he's wearing, I think it would have been a more spiritually fruitful sermon if he had just repeated the words "I AM GROOT" a few dozen times instead of whatever the heck he attempted there.

Anywho, tell the new Chicago Pope that I'm headed over with a Portillo's cake shake and a Chicago-style hot dog.
